Welcoming Our New Exec Director – Jennifer Morrison

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Sound Outreach Welcomes New Executive Director, Jennifer Morrison
Bringing Institutional Knowledge to Her New Role
Tacoma, WA — September 29, 2025

Sound Outreach has appointed Jennifer Morrison as its new Executive Director, effective September 19, 2025.

Morrison has been a dedicated member of the Sound Outreach team since April 2018, most recently serving as Deputy Director. In her new role, she will provide leadership across the organization, helping to guide strategic initiatives, manage daily operations, and strengthen program impact.

With a strong background in human services and a deep commitment to community collaboration, Morrison supports staff development, partnership engagement, and organizational learning. Her leadership is grounded in values of trust, innovation, and justice—principles that are central to Sound Outreach’s mission.

Since joining Sound Outreach, Morrison has advanced through several leadership positions, starting as Director of Operations in 2019 and later serving as Deputy Director under Interim Executive Director William Towey in 2024-2025. She previously worked as a Case Manager for ResCare Workforce Services and holds a degree in Business Family and Consumer Sciences from Kaplan University.

Outside of work, she enjoys road trips with her family and volunteering in her local community. She is a proud graduate of Tacoma’s Jason Lee and Stadium schools and brings a personal connection to the people Sound Outreach serves.

“Jennifer embodies the very best of Sound Outreach – dedication, empathy, and a deep connection to the community we serve. Her transition to Executive Director marks an exciting new chapter for the organization. The Board is proud of how her leadership reflects the compassion, integrity, and innovation that define Sound Outreach, and we have full confidence in her ability to build on our strong foundation while guiding us into our next era of growth and impact.” Candace Duecker, Board Chair

From Jennifer Morrison, Executive Director:

“To me, Sound Outreach is about dignity and opportunity. It’s a community that believes in people, meets them where they are, and helps them build lasting change for themselves and their families.”

My journey with Sound Outreach has prepared me to deliver on our priorities with clarity and confidence. Together with our partners, board, and staff, we have built a new strategic plan that reflects where we are today and where we are headed. Our goals are clear: to expand access so that we can reach more families, to strengthen impact by ensuring clients achieve measurable improvements in credit, savings, and income, and to build organizational strength by investing in our staff and financial stability.

Because I come from this community, I see the faces of neighbors, classmates, and family in the people we serve. This work is not abstract—it is woven into the life of Tacoma itself. Today is more than a leadership transition; it is a moment of momentum. I invite donors, partners, and supporters to invest in the next chapter with confidence in Sound Outreach’s mission. Together, we can ensure that every working family in Pierce County has the tools and support to thrive.”

Sound Outreach extends its gratitude to Bryan Flint, former Executive Director, for his leadership throughout the pandemic, and to Interim Executive Director William Towey for his guidance during the leadership transition.

Sound Outreach empowers Pierce County residents to achieve economic mobility through an integrated financial and employment coaching model that supports personal financial health. The organization participates in the Center for Strong Families initiative, funded by United Way of Pierce County, which bundles employment coaching, financial counseling, and access to public benefits through comprehensive case management for economically vulnerable households. Sound Outreach and its partners are committed to addressing systemic barriers, especially those faced by communities of color, immigrants, and low-income working families. Learn more at https://soundoutreach.org/.

Leadership Transition

Current Leadership Exit

At the end of 2024, Bryan Flint, who has served as our Executive Director for over five and a half years, will be stepping down. The Sound Outreach Board is deeply grateful for Bryan’s exceptional leadership during a pivotal time in Sound Outreach’s history. He navigated us through the challenges of the pandemic, strengthened the organization’s reputation for delivering impactful services, and led the development of a strategic plan that sets us up for a bright future. His dedication, hard work, and expertise have been invaluable, and we cannot thank him enough.

Incoming Leadership

The Sound Outreach Board has engaged Archbright, an experienced executive search firm, to identify our next Executive Director. In collaboration with a dedicated sub-committee of the Board, Archbright will oversee the discovery and planning phases this winter. We anticipate posting the position early in the first quarter of 2025 and actively recruiting top candidates. The entire Board will participate in the interview process and the final selection to ensure we find the best leader for Sound Outreach.

Interim Director

Recognizing that this process will take time, the Board has recruited an Interim Executive Director to provide experienced leadership during the transition. The Board has selected William Towey, a previous Board Member. William is a  a seasoned professional who has successfully guided organizations through similar periods of change. Sound Outreach is happy to have assistance during this time of change.

We are thrilled to announce that we have achieved our ambitious goal of reaching 100 clients per Center for Strong Families at both the Sumner-Bonney Lake and Bethel locations! Hilltop is also close behind, with an impressive 85 clients. We wholeheartedly applaud the dedication and hard work of our clients and staff, as well as the invaluable support from our referral partners for Financial and Employment Coaching.

Opening the Sumner-Bonney Lake location in 2021 amidst numerous Covid restrictions was no easy feat, but Sound Outreach is overjoyed to witness our clients’ remarkable engagement and progress in building financial stability. Here’s to celebrating this significant milestone and looking forward to even greater achievements ahead!

SO Receives WA State Dept of Commerce Grant to “support financial coaching for underserved communities”

Many thanks to the Washington State Department of Commerce for our grant to “support financial coaching for underserved communities that have been impacted by ‘enforcement of state criminal laws and penalties for drug possession,’ according to a Commerce release. The grants are being funded by the Washington State Community Reinvestment Account. Financial resources will prioritize Black, Latine, and tribal communities but are not limited to these communities alone, the release noted. Mentorship and financial coaching offered by the funding looks to recognize and honor cultural heritage and backgrounds and will include homebuyer education, business coaching, debt remediation, construction loans, and more, the release added.” More information on South Sound Magazine:

Our research has revealed that in addition to the 8 percent of families living in poverty, there is another 23 percent who live above the federal poverty level and are employed but struggle to provide their families with basic needs such as food and shelter. With a focus on employment and financial coaching and access to income supports, the Sumner site joins a strong network of organizations working together to implement proven strategies that respond to the problem of persistent poverty, financial instability and low-wage stagnation among families,” said Dona Ponepinto, UWPC President and CEO.

CSF’s innovative and integrated model educates the family on their financial behavior and encourages them to make a long-term commitment to increasing monthly net income, building credit, and acquiring assets or “Earn It, Keep It, and Grow It.”

The Sumner Bonney Lake School District is partnering with Sound Outreach, who hired an Employment and Financial coach to round out the income support services the Sumner- Bonney Lake Family Center offers. “Working together, we will bundle services to provide a multi-faceted approach to income and wealth building,” said Bryan Flint, executive director of Sound Outreach. “Each participating family can access these
services over an extended period, potentially two to three years.”
