Anti-Racism Statement

Sound Outreach is committed to creating and sustaining a culture of equity, diversity, access, and inclusion in our organization and across our communities.

Our commitment begins with an immediate focus on becoming an anti-racist, multicultural organization that actively works to dismantle structural and institutional racism and condemns racist practices and behaviors in all forms.

In an effort to improve our standing on the continuum towards becoming an anti-racist organization, we will work toward achieving full-participation and shared power for diverse racial, cultural, and economic groups. We vow to intentionally and purposefully challenge issues of race and color and their impact(s) as we add our voices to the call to end systematic racism.

In addition to adjusting our policies and practices, we have expanded our strategy by developing a Diversity Committee and an organizational DEI plan. By drawing upon input from employees and other key stakeholders, we have a newfound passion to empower our fellow employees, community members, and future generations.

Our Values

We strive to serve everyone, and we do that with these values in mind.

Economic Justice

We prioritize being a socially just organization.
We believe…

  • that institutionalized racism is a contributing factor to poverty, and therefore we must work through an equity lens;
  • access to financial institutions and financial products should be safe and equitable; and,
  • all community members need to be “experts” in personal finance.

Trust

We do what we do best with quality and integrity.

Innovation

We continually seek new solutions to old problems, and embrace bold innovation.

Collaboration

We seek and welcome collaboration, ensuring that we maximize the impact of Sound Outreach and our partners.

History

In 1996, Senior Outreach Services was launched to fill a gap in the availability of outreach services to seniors and people with disabilities in Pierce County. In 2001, we broadened our services, becoming South Sound Outreach Services. Today, we are simply, Sound Outreach, assisting residents suffering from financial insecurity through financial counseling, employment coaching and access to financial capital. As part of the United Way’s Center for Strong Families movement we are helping to lift 15,000 families out of poverty by 2028.
